Morimoto Asia Disney Springs features a dramatic 180-foot ribbon installation that flows continuously throughout the space, designed to feel as if it’s floating overhead. The sculptural element moves through the restaurant, connecting key areas while reinforcing the brand’s refined, high-energy atmosphere.
The design intent was both ambitious and highly detailed, requiring the ribbon to integrate seamlessly with surrounding architectural elements, including matching the tone, sheen, and translucency of adjacent Corian surfaces.
MicroLite!™ Solutions
KMDI fabricated the 180-foot continuous ribbon using MicroLite!™, allowing the large-scale form to remain lightweight enough to achieve the intended floating effect. The structure was suspended using thin stainless steel cables, strategically placed to provide support but stay visually concealed.
To meet the designer’s exact specifications, KMDI developed custom samples to match the color, shimmer, and opacity of the Corian elements, ultimately delivering a seamless visual integration. During production, field conditions shifted due to changes in the stair layout, requiring real-time adjustments. KMDI’s hands-on approach ensured the ribbon was re-coordinated and installed accurately, maintaining the integrity of the original design despite evolving site conditions.
