Viridium Apartments

The lobby of Viridium Apartments in Minneapolis is designed around layered materials, natural textures, and integrated architectural elements. The space includes a striking faux granite feature wall with a running waterfall, creating a dynamic focal point in the lobby entryway.

Given the high-traffic, high-moisture environment, the design required materials that could perform reliably while maintaining a warm, natural aesthetic throughout the space.

MicroLite!™ Solutions

KMDI fabricated the slatted wall and ceiling system using two MicroLite!™ formulations to meet the demands of different conditions within the space. In the high-touch vertical areas, an impact-resistant MicroLite!™ substrate was used to withstand frequent interaction, while a standard lightweight formulation was used overhead in the ceiling system to optimize efficiency and reduce load.

Both applications were finished in a cohesive, durable woodgrain film, maintaining the unified visual language throughout the lobby. MicroLite!™’s composite core also makes it well-suited for damp environments like this, providing stability against warping, twisting, and moisture-related deterioration even in close proximity to the waterfall feature.
