Savoy Apartments
Savoy Apartments are a multi-family mixed-use development in Sunnyvale, CA featuring a series of elevated common areas designed to balance warmth, light, and architectural detail. The interior spaces combine natural wood tones with clean modern finishes, creating a welcoming environment for residents and guests.
A key design focus in the shared amenities was integrating lighting as an architectural feature while maintaining a lightweight, cohesive system throughout the space.
MicroLite!™ Solutions
KMDI fabricated eight large 6’ x 6.5’ lightbox pendants using MicroLite!™, showcasing its versatility beyond traditional wall and ceiling applications. Each pendant features a dual finish, with a satin white painted exterior and a woodgrain film interior. All lighting and wiring were integrated in-house by KMDI’s UL-rated shop to streamline installation on site.
In addition, KMDI prebuilt and installed a stacked inverted ceiling trellis system integrated with surrounding wall slats. The lightweight nature of MicroLite!™ eliminated the need for additional structural reinforcement that would have been required with traditional materials. LED light boxes were integrated within the slats, creating a dramatic illuminated effect that activates the space at night.
